Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) was established in the year 1998 as an affiliated institution under the University of Madras. Later it was affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. In 2004, the institution was brought under the ambit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (VMRF) – Deemed to be University, Salem under sec.3 of UGC act 1956. AVIT is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt of India. AVIT is placed in the Band Excellent Category in the ARIIA Ranking. The institution is located on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) in a sprawling 24.11-acre land with a built-up area of 5.65 Lakhs Sq.ft. The institution is committed to impart quality education to the students from different socio-economic backgrounds. The institution offers under-graduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering and Technology in different disciplines in Full-time and Part-Time mode including Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme.

AVIT follows Choice based Credit System (CBCS) for all the programmes and adopted Outcome based Education (OBE). Every department has identified a set of emerging areas, providing training, enhancing the skill set of young budding engineers to make them futuristic ready. The Institution has introduced Skill based learning, Experiential Learning and Research based learning. Industry Offered courses, Value added courses and Add-on courses are some of the best practices followed to make our students Industry ready. The institution has tie-ups with leading industries/organizations to offer industry specified courses viz Industry designed courses and Industry offered courses. Few to mention are INTEL, Infosys, National Instruments, ARM University, Atheena Pandian Pvt. Ltd, Kriatec, Knovonat etc.

In 1981, the Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal (TKVTSS) Medical Educational and Charitable Trust was established, marking the inception of Vinayaka Missions. Shortly afterward, in 1982, the Founder-Chairman, Dr. A Shanmugasundaram, established the Vinayaka Mission’s College of Pharmacy in Salem, the pioneering institution of Vinayaka Missions. In 2001, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, conferred the “Deemed to be University” status on Vinayaka Missions in recognition of its excellence, adherence to the highest academic standards, and provision of top-notch infrastructural facilities aimed at achieving pre-eminence in education. This recognition elevated Vinayaka Missions to become the Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation (VMRF), the 48th University in India, as per the recommendations of the UGC under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

The University fosters a conducive environment for students to excel in their chosen fields of specialization. Currently, nearly 15,000 students are enrolled in various constituent colleges, with approximately 2,000 professionals in Medical, Dental, Homoeopathy, Paramedical, Engineering, Management, as well as arts and science graduates, graduating from VMRF campuses each year.
