Vinayaka Mission's Kirupananda Variyar Engineering College, Salem is a constituent college of Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation, (Deemed to be University), Salem. The institution started its journey in 1987 with initial affiliation to the University of Madras, then to Periyar University and later on to Anna University and finally it became a constituent college of Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation (Deemed to be University), in the year 2004. The institution initiated educational background, aimed to provide quality education for aspiring technocrats in various fields of Engineering & Technology. The programmes are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It is also recognised by Government Professional Societies like MSME, DSIR & ranked under various categories in IIC, ARIIA and NIRF.

The University has introduced Structured Choice Based Credit System (SCBCS) for all the programmes and adopted Outcome Based Education (OBE).The Institution has introduced Skill based learning, Research based learning in the Teaching and Learning process.
