Prof. Dr. A. Sam Thamburaj is working as the Principal of Vinayaka Mission’s College of Physiotherapy under Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (Deemed to be University), Salem. He completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Trinity Mission & Medical Foundation, affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, in 1998, and his Master of Physiotherapy from Vivekanandha Institute of Medical Science and Research, affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, in 2002. He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Biostatistics from Madurai Kamaraj University in 2008 and completed his Ph.D. from Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (Deemed to be University), Salem, in 2022.

After completing his post-graduation, he began his academic career as Vice Principal at Pioneer College of Physiotherapy, Ramanathapuram, in 2002, and subsequently served as Principal of the same institution in 2004. He joined Vinayaka Mission’s College of Physiotherapy in 2004 and served as Academic Coordinator for more than 16 years, contributing significantly to academic planning, curriculum implementation, and institutional development. In recognition of his academic leadership and administrative excellence, he was appointed as Principal of Vinayaka Mission’s College of Physiotherapy in July 2021.

With more than 23 years of postgraduate teaching experience, Prof. Dr. A. Sam Thamburaj has been actively involved in teaching, clinical training, and research guidance for undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has published his research work in several reputed national and international journals, with research interests spanning musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurorehabilitation, geriatric physiotherapy, low back pain, post-COVID rehabilitation, and technology-assisted rehabilitation. He has guided more than 75 postgraduate students and over 100 undergraduate students and continues to mentor research scholars.

In recognition of his academic contributions, he has received several prestigious awards, including the Guru of Knowledge Award (2025), Chanakya Award (2024), Special Golden Supremacy Award (2024), Axis Award (2017), Distinguished Academic Service Award (2015), and the Significant Contribution Award (2010) from professional bodies. He is a life member of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists and continues to contribute actively to physiotherapy education, research, and academic administration.
