Dr. Edna Sweenie J, RNRM, M.Sc(N)., Ph.D., D.Sc

Dr. Edna Sweenie.J is an accomplished academician and administrator with over 28 years of teaching experience in nursing education. She completed her undergraduate studies at Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and earned her postgraduate degree from the prestigious Government Madras Medical College. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing and a Doctor of Science (D.Sc) in the same discipline. Her academic excellence was recognized early when she was honored as the State University Topper and awarded the "Seva Rathna" Dr.Venkatesalu Gold Medal Award by Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University in 1997, along with the State Topper Award by the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council and the Nurse Excellence Award in the same year..

With more than 15 years of leadership experience exclusively as Principal and having served as Deputy Director at the Sri Venkateswara Group of Nursing Institutions until 2025, she has been instrumental in advancing academic and research excellence. As the Institutional NAAC IQAC Coordinator (2020 - 2025), she played a pivotal role in securing an 'A' Grade accreditation for the same institution. A distinguished researcher, Dr. Edna has led several major projects funded by DST, including CURIE and KIRAN-WISE. She has successfully guided 165 research projects and published over 35 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals. Her clinical and scientific contributions, especially in paediatric nursing, have been widely recognized.

In addition, she is a certified NPTEL E-Teacher in Biomedical Research and a TOT of GFATM. She has made significant contributions as a reviewer and author of nursing textbooks and has actively organized numerous ISR and CSR initiatives. Her unwavering commitment to nursing education, research, and institutional development continues to inspire excellence across the profession.
